"Spring crocus" is a lino-cut print on paper created by Margaret Mallows.
What colours come to mind when you think of spring? For me, it is the lovely rich purples, blues, yellows and whites - all very welcome after the greyness of winter.
The crocus is one of those beloved early flowers, and the spring crocus is smaller and daintier than the autumn one. I have set these crocus against a circle of deep midnight blue.
This is a reduction lino print; just one lino block was used for the print, adding colour and then more cutting of lino to leave that colour behind, the process repeated until the print is finished. Once printing has commenced no more prints can be made. Hand printed on 250 gsm soft white Fabriano paper in light fast water based inks.
There are minor variations in each print, making each one unique.
